Hawaii Pics... Finally

The pics at the top are all taken at the Punchbowl National Military Cemetary... The fireworks and ones of Gary & Nikki are from the Friday night fireworks show on Waikiki Beach and the dark scenery ones are all of Waikiki Beach at night. (I think that's right... Gary will correct me if I'm not... hehehe) Enjoy!!

New?? Nothin' much...

Well......... Not too much going on lately. The only real news around our place is that Gary's parents and little brother will be moving soon... They put in an offer on a house in Spokane, WA and it was accepted. They are just going through escrow now and plan to head up that way sometime in the first part of October. Nikki's parents are working on getting all of the almond orchards harvested and keeping up with everything else. Gary is scheduled to fly to Elmendorf AFB in Alaska at the end of September for a couple of days on a training flight. Nikki is keeping her options open as far as careers go... She is taking the CBEST in October and hopefully will be able to start substitute teaching when the school districts start back after christmas in January. If the CBEST proves more difficult than originally thought, she is also taking a test for the Customs and Border Protection Agency in October. Something has to come through before December, right?! Keep prayin'!!! Nothing else to report really... Hope all is well with everyone else!

A month or so ago Gary & I had some pics done by a couple of ladies that were a blast to work with!! I am trying to upload a few of them... here's attempt 2 or 3!! hahaha These were all done by Gayle... I'll try and get the ones from Cherie in another post... if I don't get them on here, her site has a few of them and it is: cheriegilbertsonphotography.blogspot.com

Hawaii........

So we are both in Hawaii right now... I know, I know... why am I blogging while in Hawaii?! Well..... it is almost 10:00 p.m. and we are back in our hotel room for the night. We went to the AFB (Air Force Base) today and picked up some things and then went over and drove around Ford Island. We got some cool pictures of old military sights and some of the USS Missouri. We drove over to Sand Island and walked along the beach there looking for cool shells and rocks and such... We found lots!! Gary had already been here just under a week when I got here and had been snorkeling almost every day! I'm jealous because we have only been snorkeling once since I got here and it is so neat!! We are going again tomorrow though and hopefully again on Saturday morning before I fly out at noon! hahaha We went to Pearl Harbor and the USS Arizona Memorial a couple of days ago... Very neat! There is so much military history here in Hawaii that is off the beaten path for tourists! We drove one of the highways that goes around the island and stopped at a place that we though looked like it would have some neat views and when we got out of the car we noticed some odd 'holes' in the side of the mountain area... we climbed up to one of them and realized they were old firing positions for incoming ships! Maybe these things are more interesting to us because of the fact that we are a military family, but it is so neat to just happen upon those kinds of things!
The weather has been fairly nice for us... it rained on us a little bit today but then the sun came back out! We are having a great time and are so glad that we got the chance to do this!! Hope you all are enjoying your end of summer/first few weeks back to school!!

About time.......

I guess since everyone else is on here, I can create one too........ Just a little update for now. Gary is still a Flight Medic with the Air Force and is based out of Travis AFB. We are living in Livingston, about 2-3 miles from the majority of my family and about 15 miles from Gary's parents and brother. For the most part, we are enjoying the summer off. We have been camping, rafting, swimming at mom & dad's, and done a whole lot of hanging out at home! We still go up to Travis AFB one weekend a month for Gary's training, and we stay in the hotel there which is a nice little get-a-way for a couple of days. Other than that, we are not doing much else. Gary is almost done with his last class for the summer semester and then will be off to Hawaii for a 2-week TDY assignment. The next few months of my life are currently up in the air... I interviewed for a position with the Turlock School District this week and am continuing to apply for a few positions. If I don't get anything before the fall semester starts, my plan is to take the 15 units that I need in order to take the CBEST and start subbing in the area. Other than that, not much news......
